ATTN: ALL Football Officials
SUBJECT: INCLEMENT WEATHER AND BALL-DRYING
Due to the strong possibility of nasty weather this weekend, just to remind you of these two important issues regarding inclement weather:
-
If it is necessary to suspend a game for any reason, suspend all action. Do not resume the game until you are satisfied that the conditions will allow you to continue the game with no further threats to any and all persons involved with the game (players, coaches, officials, fans, etc.). If a suspended game cannot be resumed, continue to consider it a suspended contest -- DO NOT consider it terminated, over, or anything else!! This will allow the proper authorities to determine the outcome of the game. We NEVER declare a suspended game over or terminated!!!
-
Ball-drying substances:
Reference: 2002-03 NCAA Football Rule Book, Rule 1-3-1i.
"The ball may not be altered. This includes the use of any ball-drying substance. Ball-drying devices are not permitted near the sidelines or in the team area."
THIS RULE, LIKE OTHER RULES IN THE RULE BOOK, MAY NOT BE SET ASIDE BY MUTUAL AGREEMENT OF OPPOSING COACHES!
